Food Trucks
Food trucks, are you kidding me? It's no joke: There’s a Food Truck revolution being waged right here is lower, slower Delaware. Not just limited to construction sites and sporting events anymore, food trucks have gone main stream with incredible food offerings and numerous locations all over lower Delaware. Here are a few to get you started. The good news is that there are lots more.
- Po’ Boys Creole & Fresh Catch (my personal favorite): www.poboyscreole.com/
- Rosenfeld's Jewish Deli: www.rosenfeldsjewishdeli.com/
- Taco Reho: roaminghunger.com/taco-reho
- Big Thunder Roadside Kitchen: www.bigthunderroadsidekitchen.com/
There are also several sites where multiple food trucks gather on appointed days. One is Food Truck Friday - www.eumcrb.org/foodtruckfridays - hosted twice monthly during the season by Epworth United Methodist church in Rehoboth Beach.
Another good one held 4 times during the season is Foodie Fest - www.foodiefestde.com - at Hudson Fields on Route 1 several miles north of the Nassau bridge. Both events are charitable fundraisers with a certain percentage of food truck sales going to local charities.
Grocery Stores
National and regional grocery store chains are plentiful along Delaware's seacoast. But, if you're looking to kick it up a notch with something old and something new, check these:
Lloyds Market in Lewes is a throwback to an earlier time. This hometown grocery store is stuffed with fresh, hand picked produce from local farmers, hand cut meats and a wide selection of all the grocery products you'd expect to find at the national and regional chains. Their friendly staff has been there forever too, working side-by-side with the owners. Yeah, the aisles are a little narrower than the chain stores, but that just adds to their charm. It's a food shopping experience not to be missed.
If you're looking for a more upscale gastronomic grocery shopping experience, one of the newer kids on the block is The Fresh Market in Rehoboth Beach on Route 1 at Rehoboth Avenue. In addition to a wide variety of specialty food selections, they have numerous ready-to-eat food items, everything from sides to the main course, ready to take home to your fridge. One popular program they offer is their Little Big Meal feeding a family of 4 for only $20 to $25 – burgers, chili, pasta, stir fry, meatloaf, roasted chicken roll-ups and a whole lot more. All the fixins’ plus dessert are included, so eat your heart out. www.thefreshmarket.com

Crabs
Ask just about anyone in lower Delaware where the best place for Crab Cakes is and you’ll hear the name Woody’s in Dewey Beach. This hole in the wall on Route 1 is known for their tasty large lump crab cakes. Stop by, you won’t be disappointed.
If you’re into Pickin’ Crabs, the menu of great places is wide and deep. One of my favorites is the Surfin’ Crab in Lewes, just over the Nassau bridge heading north on Route 1. www.restaurantji.com/
Of course, don’t forget to check out the ultimate authority on everything food, the Rehoboth Foodie, Bob Yesbek, for his take on crab joints in Sussex County. His link is at the top of this page.
